Term 3
Half the year is over and we now well on our way to achieving our personal goals. We enter the third term more able and ready to work towards our long term goal of being lifelong learners and our short term goal of getting prepared for Intermediate school.

Term 3 – Outline
  • Our Concept for the term is Culture.

  • We will also be focusing on the London Olympic Games.
  • I hope to have a cultural food day later in the term. More to follow.
  • If there is any parent that can help us with this concept by providing ‘interesting items’ from their culture, please send it along to school with your child. These items could include pictures, dress items, ornaments, etc. This will be most appreciated.
  • We’ll investigate cultures throughout the world and compare it with our own.
  • We will also look at different housing found all over the world.
  • We also plan to look at personal treasures. More to come on this J
  • Our virtues this term are: Tolerance and Honesty.
Important dates:
  • Mini Olympics - Week 2
  • Mathex - Week 3
  • Netball - Week 3
  • School disco - Week 4
  • School Cross Country - Week 7
  • Kapa haka sleepover - Week 8
  • School production – Week 11
  • Open Evening - Week 11
Homework
Homework will, once again, not be as hectic, as I know that it can be exhausting to both parents and pupils. The homework sheet, this term, will supplement the work being done in class. Projects or tasks will, on occasion, replace homework sheets.

Term Project
  • The pupils will have to do research with this project.
  • They have to choose a country taking part in the Olympic Games, that they do not know well, and do a presentation on that country concentrating on their culture. They need to focus on: position in the world, food, dress, celebrations/beliefs, music and language.
  • The presentation should be about 5 pages of diagrams, pictures, sketches and information. Pupils can use any media to present their project.
  • I expect a cover page, contents page and reference page.
The focus will be on presentation and relevant facts for pupils their age (not just copy and paste). The due date for this assignment is Friday 31st August 2012.

Please feel free to contact me if you are uncertain about any of the information on this notice or any concerns that you may have.
